Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I have a 14 year old cob who has always gone English. Would it be possible to convert him to Western?
A. Yes it would. Many horses take to converting to western really well.

Q. Do I have to have a Quarter Horse to do western?
A. No. Any breed can do it, and you can certainly compete in shows run by the Western Equestrian Society on any breed.

Q. I would like my youngster backed and started. How long will he need to be in for training?
A. We recommend a minimum of six to eight weeks to start a horse. But starting is just that; you will not have a "finished" horse in such a short time. You need to do your homework and persevere, building on the basics your horse has learned during his starting period.

Q. Could I have a lesson on one of your school horses?
A. Sorry, but the answer to that question is no. Our horses are trained to do a job in the show ring and we don't want to upset their training programme by putting different riders on them, no matter how good you are. Lessons are on your own horses.

Q. Can I come and spectate at one of your clinics?
A. Spectators are usually welcome at clinics but please check with the organisers first.
